Nadan Crab Thoran||Njandu Thoran- Kerala Style||Crab In Coconut Masala||Tasty Crab ||Episode No :43

Crab is a healthy sea food which is a great source of calcium, protein and Omega - 3 - fatty acid.Crab thoran tastes good when prepared with fresh crab meat instead of those from canned ones.Moreover its delicious when cooked with its shell, even though its difficult to deal with its shells.It takes time and effort to have this crab as a side dish.But if you have time to enjoy a lunch or dinner, you should definitely have crab dishes with its own shell.This is an excellent side dish with hot rice, especially Kerala Matta rice.The taste comes from coarsely grind coconut, cumin seeds and some basic spices.Enjoy this Crab thoran along with your family and share your valuable suggestions.



Ingredients

Crab - 500 grams
Shallots - One cup
Green chilies - 5 Nos
Garlic - 10 Nos
Tomatoes - 2 Nos
Coconut ( Freshly grated ) - Half portion
Ginger - One piece
Turmeric Powder - Half teaspoon
Dry red chili powder - Two teaspoon
Kashmiri red chili powder - Two teaspoon
Coriander Powder - Half teaspoon
Pepper Powder - Half teaspoon
Cumin Seeds - One teaspoon
Coconut Oil - 4 Teaspoon
Mustard Seeds - Half teaspoon   
Water - One cup
Curry Leaves - 4 Sticks
Salt - As per taste



Method of preparation

Take 500 grams of fresh sea crab, wash and clean well
Take a cup of shallots, 5 green chilies, 10 garlic and 2 tomatoes
Cut shallots into 2 to 3 pieces, slit green chilies
Cut garlic into two halves and chop tomatoes into pieces
Take half portion of coconut and freshly grate it well
Take a piece of ginger, quarter teaspoon turmeric power ,one and half teaspoon dry red chili powder, one and half teaspoon kashmiri red chili powder,half teaspoon coriander powder , One teaspoon cumin seeds and 4 petals of fresh curry leaves
Chop ginger and fresh curry leaves
Crush coconut and all spices together
Keep an earthen pot and add 4 teaspoon of coconut oil
To the heated oil add half teaspoon mustard seeds
When mustard seeds splutters, add chopped shallots
Add required salt and sort shallots well
When the color of shallots slightly changes add chopped garlic along with a stick of fresh curry leaves
When shallots turns transparent add chopped tomatoes along with green chilies and cook well
When tomatoes cooked well, keep flame on a low level and add quarter teaspoon turmeric powder, half teaspoon dry red chili powder, half teaspoon kashmiri red chili powder , half teaspoon pepper powder and stir well till raw smell goes off
Now add washed crab to the prepared masala, mix well
Add a cup of water and cook crab well
Add required salt and a sick of fresh curry leaves, mix well
When it boils, check salt and add if its required
Stir in between to avoid sticking at the bottom
When water level reduced to quarter level, add prepared coconut mix and stir well
The coconut mix will absorb the remaining water level
Mix and cook coconut mix for 5 minutes on low flame
Check taste,flavor and spice level
Finally add a stick of fresh curry eaves and serve after 5 minutes

Its best combination with hot rice, preferably Kerala Matta Rice
