Mangosteen is a small round shaped fruit produced by a tree Garcinia Mangostana.Mangosteen is a native tree of south east Asia.It has got several medicinal values and hence it is a part of traditional herbal medicine for centuries.It is mainly recommended for skin infections as it has anti - fungal and anti - bacterial properties.Recent research studies has proved that it has major role in developing immunity as it is rich in vitamin C and has got Anti - tumor properties that is it fight against development of cancer cells in the body.
The tree was mainly found in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.But now a days it's been growing well in Kerala.The tree reaches it's fruit bearing stage only after 8 to 10 years.The white part of the fruit has delicious taste and it has got a popular name 'Queen of all fruits '.
The rind of Mangosteen is popularly used to make medicinal tea which is very much prevalent for its high Xanthone content.
Overall ,the chemical Xanthone contains Anti-Oxidant (as it has anti-aging property too ) ,Anti - bacterial,Anti - fungal and Anti - tumour properties.
Ingredients
Mangosteen rind (Sun-dried) - 2 Pieces
Water - One glass
Cardamoms - 2 Nos
Ginger - One small piece
Sugar - One and half teaspoon
Method of preparation
Take some Mangosteen fruits
Open the fruit and take out the edible white part
Use only the outer rind for making the Mangosteen tea
Dry with food dehydrator or sundry the mangosteen rind
Take 2 cardamoms and a piece of ginger
Keep a pan and add one glass of water
When the water is about to boil add two pieces of dried mangosteen rinds and allow to boil
You can see the color of water changes to golden color
Add crushed ginger and cardamoms to the boiled water
For sweetness add one and half teaspoon sugar
Check sweetness and add sugar if required
If needed add honey instead of sugar
When sugar dissolves put off the flame and serve tea after straining through a strainer
Its an yummy medicinal tea with lot of anti- oxidants, anti- fungal , anti- bacterial and anti- tumor properties
