Manipayar Mezhukkupuratti in Kerala Style || Tender Cowpea Stir Fry || Sadya Recipe || No: 16

Tender cow pea is a popular dish which is a part of Kerala sadya menu and can often served with hot rice and even porridge.It is a very simple recipe but has an amazing taste as it adds the freshness of tender cow pea.As it is rich in protein ,do prepare at home and make it as a part of your lunch/dinner.



Ingredients

Cowpeas (tender) - 500 grams

Shallots - 15 Nos

Green Chilies - 5 Nos

Dry red chili - 6 Nos

Curry leaves - 3 Sticks

Water - One cup

Coconut Oil - 3 teaspoon

Turmeric Powder - Quarter teaspoon

Chili Powder - Half teaspoon

Salt - As per taste

Method of preparation


Take 500 grams of fresh tender cow peas and remove peas from it
Wash peas thoroughly and keep it aside
Take 15 shallots,5 green chilies, 6 dry red chilies and 3 sticks of curry leaves
Chop shallots and slit green chilies
Keep a pan and add tender peas in it.
Add slited chilies and a stick of fresh curry leaves
Pour one glass of water and mix well
Cover and cook till cow peas softens
Once cow peas cooked well and the water is about to dry add required salt and cook for 2 minutes
After two minutes put off the flame
Keep another pan and add two teaspoon coconut oil
To the heated oil add chopped shallots and stir well
Add slited dry red chilies and a stick of curry leaves
Add quarter teaspoon turmeric powder and half teaspoon dry red chili powder and sort well till raw smell goes off
Now add cooked cow peas and stir well
When the cow peas are dry, check salt and add if required
Finally add a teaspoon raw coconut oil and  a stick of fresh curry leaves
Give it a mix and put off the flame.

Its one of the dishes in Kerala sadya.
Best combination with hot rice or porridge.
