Kerala is situated between the Arabian sea to the west and the Western Ghats to the east.Geographically , Kerala roughly divides into three climatic regions.They include eastern highlands , the central midlands and the westerns lowlands .Eastern highlands are rugged and cool mountainous terrain, the central midlands consists of rolling hills, and the western lowlands are coastal plains.Kerala's climate is mainly wet and maritime tropical , which is heavily influenced by the seasonal heavy rains brought up by the monsoon. The moisture - laden winds of the southwest monsoon , when reaching the south most point of the Indian peninsula , because of its topography , basically divides into two branches.
